Stepper Drive Setting Directions


1. Set the micro-step of the stepper driver,usually the higher the number of subdivision,the higher the control resolution.But the fine fraction too high will affect the maximum feed rate.Generally,for moulding machine users can consider the pulse equivalent of 0.001mm / P (at this time the maximum feed rate is 9600mm / min) or 0.0005mm / P (at this time the maximum feed rate is 4800mm / min); for low precision requirements,pulse equivalent can set a little high,for example,0.002mm/P(the maximum feedrate is 19200mm / min) or 0.005mm / P (the maximum feed speed is 48000mm / min). For two-phase stepper motor,the pulse equivalent calculation method is as follows: pulse equivalent = screw pitch ÷ subdivision ÷ 200.


2. Take-off speed: This parameter corresponds to the take-off frequency of the stepper motor.The take-off frequency is stepper motor without acceleration,can directly start the work highest frequency.Reasonable select the parameters can improve the processing efficiency,and avoid the stepper motor movement characteristics of the low speed section;but if the parameter selection is large,it will cause boring,so be sure to leave margin.The default parameters of stepper motor,the hopping frequency parameters are generally included.But after machine is assembled,the value may change, generally to decline,especially movement under load.Therefore,the setting parameter is better to refer stepper motor default parameters first,and decide after actual measurement.


3.Uniaxial acceleration: used to describe the acceleration and deceleration capability of a single feed axis in millimeters per second.This indicator is determined by the physical characteristics of the machine,such as the quality of the moving part,the torque of the feed motor,the resistance,the cutting load,and so on.The larger the value,the less time spent during the acceleration and deceleration process,the higher efficiency.Usually,for stepper motors,the value is between 100 and 500,and for servo motors,it can be set between 400 and 1200.In the setting process,set small value at beginning,run a period time,repeat all kinds of typical movement,observation,if there is no abnormal situation,then gradually increase this value.If an abnormality is found,decrease the value and leave an insurance margin of 50% to 100%.


4.Corner acceleration:used to describe the acceleration and deceleration capability of multiple axes when combined,unit is 

millimeters per second.It determines the maximum speed when the machine is doing circular motion.The greater the value,the greater the maximum allowable speed of the machine during circular motion.Usually,for stepper motor system composed of machine,the value is 400 to 1000;for servo motor system,can be set between 1000 to 5000.If it is heavy machine,the value is smaller.In the setting process,set a small value at beginning,run for a period time,repeat all kinds of typical linkage movement,pay attention to observation,if there is no abnormal situation,then gradually increase.If an abnormality is found,decrease the value and leave an insurance margin of 50% to 100%.

Generally taking into consideration of the stepper motor drive capability,mechanical assembly friction,the mechanical components

of the bearing capacity,can modify the parameters of the maximum speed of each axis in manufacturer setting parameters,limit the maximum speed of the act using three axes.


5.According to the installation position of the three axis zero sensors,set the home parameters of machine.When the setting are correct,you can run the "Home" in the "Operation" menu.First single-axis return,if the direction of motion is correct,then continue

to return,or need to stop,re-set Home parameter of the manufacturer parameters,till all the axes can back to the mechanical Home.


6.Set automatic refueling parameters (set a little smaller, such as 5 seconds add oil),observe the automatic refueling is correct,if it is,set automatically refueling parameters to actual need parameters.


7.Verify that the setting for the electronic gear and pulse equivalent whether match.You can make a mark on any axis of the 

machine,set the coordinates in the software as the working zero,use direct input command, jog or hand wheel and other working methods to make the shaft move fixed distance,with the vernier caliper to measure the actual distance whether coordinate to the software showing distance.


8.Determine whether lose pulse.You can use an intuitive method:with a knife in the workpiece blank point on a point,set the point as the working origin point,raise the Z axis,then set the Z axis coordinates to 0;make machine repeat movement,such as empty knife run typical machining program (preferably including three-axis linkage),can be paused or stopped during processing,and then back to workpiece origin,slowly lower the Z axis to see if knife tip is consistent with the point on the blank.If there is deviation,please check the type of stepper driver receiving pulse signal,check whether the wiring between the terminal board and stepper drive is wrong.If there are still boring or lost step,according to 10,11,12 step to adjust the acceleration and other parameters.
